Bandage: A Timeless Sofa Design

The inspiration behind the Bandage Sofa was simple yet profound. The team at Bogdanova Bureau wanted to create a piece of furniture that not only met all the requirements of the consumer but also offered an enhanced level of comfort. The common issue of uncomfortable, shifting pillows on sofas was addressed with an innovative bandage system, making the Bandage Sofa a standout in its category.

The Bandage Sofa is versatile, suitable for both office spaces and private apartments. The team prioritized the use of natural materials for the casing, such as cotton or wool, with the addition of elastic fibers. The elastic tape, used as a bandage system, serves as the main accent of this sofa, adding a unique touch to its design.

The design process was backed by thorough research. As interior designers, the team conducted a survey among 25 people about their sofa-related concerns. The majority highlighted the issue of sloppy pillows, which led to the birth of the bandage idea. The bandage system allows users to fix the pillow in the desired position, enhancing comfort and ease of use.

The Bandage Sofa, measuring 2200 (L) x 850(D) x 900 (H), is a new concept project that the Bogdanova Bureau team started nearly two months ago in Kiev. Despite the creative and technical challenges, the team managed to add extra comfort with the simplest possible means. By adding an elastic tape on the back of the sofa, they introduced a new feature that is intuitive for the user.

The Bandage Sofa has already received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Platinum A' Furniture Design Award in 2019, an accolade that recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. The award is a testament to the Bogdanova Bureau's commitment to pushing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
